Torso (skin-tone, transitions to tail)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Round 3: sc, inc repeat (18)
  • Rounds 4-7: sc around (18) — 4 rounds (this is the torso)

  • Stuff firmly as you go
  • Round 15: sc, dec repeat (12)
  • Round 16: dec around (6)
  • Fasten off, close hole, sew to head

Tail Fin (teal)

  • Ch 2, work a fan shape in rows: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, inc each end every row for 3-4 rows (3→5→7→9 sts)
  • Fasten off, sew to bottom tip of tail, fanning outward

Arms (skin-tone, make 2)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Rounds 2-6: sc around (6) — 5 rounds
  • Stuff lightly, flatten and sc closed
  • Sew to sides of torso

Hair (yarn color of choice)

  • Make several long strands by cutting yarn pieces (about 6-8 inches each)
  • Fold each strand in half and pull through a stitch on the head using a crochet hook (latch-hook/fringe technique), starting from crown and working outward
  • Trim and style as desired (can braid sections for extra detail)

Top/Bikini (small accent color)

  • Ch 2, work two small triangles: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1 row even, then dec to a point
  • Sew onto chest area with thin yarn “straps” over shoulders

Seashell Base (pink/coral)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Round 3: sc, inc repeat (18)
  • Round 4: sc 2, inc repeat (24)
  • Round 5: sc 3, inc repeat (30)
  • Round 6: sc around (30)
  • Fasten off — this forms a flat-ish disc; work surface crochet ridge lines from center to edge with a contrasting pink/white yarn for a “shell” texture

Seashell Ridges (optional, white/cream)

  • With contrasting yarn, slip stitch in a line from center to outer edge at 6-8 even points around the disc for a ribbed shell look

Finishing

  • Embroider eyelashes, blush, and a small smile with embroidery thread
  • Weave in all ends
  • Position mermaid sitting on the seashell with tail curved naturally
