Hi there, crafty friend! We’re thrilled to have you back for another cozy creation. Today’s project has a magical, fiery twist — grab your hook and favorite mug of tea, and let’s get started!


Amigurumi Dragon on Books Tutorial

Materials

  • Green or purple yarn (dragon body)
  • Yellow/cream yarn (dragon belly, horns, spikes)
  • Small amount of red/orange yarn (optional, for tiny flame detail)
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Safety eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Wire (optional, for tail/wing support)

Head (green)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc in each st (12)
  • Round 3: sc, inc repeat (18)
  • Round 4: sc 2, inc repeat (24)
  • Round 5: sc 3, inc repeat (30)
  • Rounds 6-10: sc around (30) — 5 rounds even
  • Insert safety eyes around round 7, spaced 8-9 sts apart
  • Round 11: sc 3, dec repeat (24)
  • Round 12: sc 2, dec repeat (18)
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 13: sc, dec repeat (12)
  • Round 14: dec around (6)
  • Fasten off, close hole

Snout (cream/yellow)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Rounds 3-4: sc around (12)
  • Stuff lightly, sew to front-lower face
  • Embroider small nostrils with black yarn

Horns (cream, make 2)

  • Round 1: 5 sc in magic ring (5)
  • Rounds 2-4: sc around (5) — 3 rounds
  • Flatten and sc closed
  • Sew to top of head

Ears/Frills (green, make 2)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Round 3: sc around (12)
  • Flatten and sc closed
  • Sew to sides of head, slightly back

Body (green)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Round 3: sc, inc repeat (18)
  • Round 4: sc 2, inc repeat (24)
  • Round 5: sc 3, inc repeat (30)
  • Rounds 6-12: sc around (30) — 7 rounds even
  • Round 13: sc 3, dec repeat (24)
  • Round 14: sc 2, dec repeat (18)
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 15: sc, dec repeat (12)
  • Round 16: dec around (6)
  • Fasten off, close hole, sew to head

Belly Patch (cream)

  • Ch 2, work oval shape in rows of sc — increase each end every other row up to about 8 sts wide, work even 6 rows, then decrease back to a point
  • Sew onto front of body from chest to tail end

Arms (green, make 2)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Rounds 2-6: sc around (6) — 5 rounds
  • Stuff lightly, flatten and sc closed
  • Sew to upper sides of body

Legs (green, make 2)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Round 2: inc around (12)
  • Rounds 3-7: sc around (12) — 5 rounds
  • Stuff firmly, flatten and sc closed
  • Sew to bottom of body so dragon sits upright

Wings (green, make 2)

  • Ch 2, work a fan shape in rows: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, then inc each end every row for 3 rows (3→5→7→9 sts), then sc 1 row even
  • Fasten off, leave edges slightly curved/unstuffed for a “membrane” look
  • Sew to upper back, angled outward

Tail (green)

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
  • Rounds 2-10: sc around (6) — 9 rounds, decreasing length as desired
  • Round 11: dec twice, sc rest (4)
  • Stuff lightly (insert wire here for posability if desired)
  • Sew to base of body

Back Spikes (cream, make 5-7 small triangles)

  • Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in last ch, turn, sc 2 — creates a small triangle
  • Sew along the spine from head to tail tip in a row

Finishing

  • Embroider small claws on hands and feet with black yarn
  • Weave in all ends
  • Optional: tuck a tiny scrap of red/orange yarn near the mouth for a “flame” peek
