Amigurumi Penguin Tutorial

Materials

• Black yarn (body/back, wings, head)
• White yarn (belly, face)
• Orange/yellow yarn (beak, feet)
• 3.5mm crochet hook
• Stuffing
• Safety eyes
• Yarn needle

Body & Head (worked as one piece, bottom-up)

Bottom (black)

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Round 2: inc in each st (12)
• Round 3: sc, inc repeat (18)
• Round 4: sc 2, inc repeat (24)
• Round 5: sc 3, inc repeat (30)

Body sides

• Rounds 6-14: sc around (30) — 9 rounds even
  (switch to white for belly panel: work in rows back and forth over the front ~12 stitches of each round while continuing black sc in the round for the back — or simpler: crochet the whole body in black and sew on a white oval belly patch afterward — beginner-friendly option)

Shoulder decrease

• Round 15: sc 3, dec repeat (24)
• Round 16: sc 2, dec repeat (18)
• Stuff body firmly

Neck transition (continue black, no break)

• Round 17: sc, dec repeat (12)

Head increase

• Round 18: inc in each st (24)
• Round 19: sc 3, inc repeat (30)
• Rounds 20-23: sc around (30) — 4 rounds even
• Insert safety eyes around round 21, spaced 7-8 sts apart
• Round 24: sc 3, dec repeat (24)
• Round 25: sc 2, dec repeat (18)
• Stuff head firmly
• Round 26: sc, dec repeat (12)
• Round 27: dec around (6)
• Fasten off, close hole

White Belly Patch

• Ch 2, work in rows of sc increasing then decreasing to form an oval (start with 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, inc each end every other row up to about 10 sts wide, work even 4 rows, then dec back down to a point)
• Pin and sew onto the front of the body from chest to bottom

Beak (orange)

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Round 2: inc around (12)
• Round 3: sc around (12)
• Flatten and sc closed
• Sew flat triangle-folded beak below eyes

Wings (black, make 2)

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Round 2: inc around (12)
• Rounds 3-7: sc around (12) — 5 rounds
• Flatten, sc closed
• Sew to sides of body, angled slightly back

Feet (orange, make 2)

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Round 2: inc around (12)
• Rounds 3-4: sc around (12)
• Flatten into oval shape, sc closed
• Sew to bottom of body so penguin stands/sits stable

Finishing

• Weave in all ends
• Optional: add tiny black yarn French knots for cheek blush spots in pink
